Following the success of the Spoon BikeFest 2010, Wooden Spoon is proud to continue this challenge in 2011. With the success of the family ride last year, the whole family is still welcome to join in, whether it is taking part in the challenge itself or simply providing all important support at the finish line festival. Wootton Bassett Rugby Club, on the edge of the ‘Henge’ will be the host of the finish line, which provides excellent facilities including showers! This fun packed challenge will take place on Saturday 11th June 2011 and each cyclist is asked to pledge a minimum of £300 in support of Wooden Spoon’s work with mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children.

Start Points
Wooden Spoon are teaming up with some of the top Premiership Rugby Clubs to create this challenge, and each are offering their grounds as start points for this multi-route bike ride. The start points offer various distances so that challengers can choose how tough their own challenge will be. London Irish - Madejski Stadium (approx 50 miles), Bath (approx 50 miles), Gloucester (approx 40 miles) Harlequins – Twickenham Stoop Stadium (approx 106 miles), Leicester Tigers (approx 85 miles) and Worcester (approx 65 miles) have all signed up to support the event, but if you fancy starting from your own club please get in touch and if you can achieve a minimum number of cyclists we would be happy to include you too! Please contact Kerry in the challenge office to discuss this.
Rugby Legends!
Cycle from a Premiership Rugby Club of your choice to Wootton Bassett Rugby Club, with a host of premiership stars!
With all cyclists and celebs meeting at the finish line at Wootton Bassett RFC the Festival is certainly gearing up to be a cracking night! We are excited to confirm that as well as the BBQ and fully stocked bar, WBRFC are providing face painters, a cake stand and a bouncy castle to keep the kids amused and a number of bands throughout the evening to get the party in full swing! Make sure you don’t miss out on the Challenge and party of the year – sign up now!
The Route
The terrain of the routes will vary between start points but most include a combination of minor roads, tow paths, tracks and Sustrans routes. Terrain briefs, route profiles and bike recommendations for each route will be available soon however, mountain bikes or road bikes with cyclo cross tyres are recommended. There will be a staggered start from each start point, support riders and drivers will be on hand to assist throughout the ride and there will be designated pit-stops equipped with drinks and snacks for refueling. Challengers will be required to carry a minimum amount of kit including water, cycle repair kits and all must wear a helmet. Routes and start times will be designed to ensure that all challengers arrive at the finish site in time for the evening celebrations.

The Finish Line
We know how hard it can be to get the finish line, so we thought we would encourage everyone to get there by creating a Wooden Spoon Festival to finish off the day. The festival will consist of a celebration barbecue, bar and musical entertainment in a tented village at Wootton Bassett Rugby Club. Overnight camping facilities will be available on-site and everyone is encouraged to bring family and friends to join in with the celebrations.
Open to all the family!
This year the event is open to all ages and a 5 mile family route has been designed that will start and finish at Wootton Bassett RFC. This means that even the youngest Spoon supporters can join in and a fun quiz on route will make it even more exciting. Those 16 and over can complete the ride alone and younger children are invited to join in as long a family member can accompany them. In order to take part in the family route, adults must raise a minimum of £10 and children must raise a minimum of £5 - so all in all, a fun family event that will keep you fit whilst raising an achievable amount for disadvantaged kids! Contact the Challenge Office on 01283 841 600 for more information or to book your place. (places are limited and will be filled on a first come, first served basis)
