Spoon and fundraising

Our track record

  • Wooden Spoon has raised £13 million for disadvantaged children over the 24 years of its existence, more than £7million in the past 6 years alone, and has always taken great pride in the enthusiasm, dedication and truthfulness with which it has conducted its activities.
  • In 2006, Spoon donated 81% to charitable projects as a percentage of funds raised including the net income from events. We are an event based charity and differ from a large number of charities in that we as report sales of tickets within the total revenue. Direct costs to run these events must then be subtracted to arrive at the net contribution from events. The balance left over is Spoon income. This sum is the equivalent to donations in many other charities.
  • Spoon head office is extremely judicious in its governance and takes great care in the management of all overheads; only 6p in the £1 goes on the actual administration of the charity and Wooden Spoon employs only 9 full time equivalent staff. Its principal task, in addition to dealing with all the administrative aspects of running a charity and assisting with central fundraising events, is to help and support the 40 plus regions and their extensive fundraising programmes. Spoon regions are run by volunteers, who five up to three days a week of their own time.
