Four Peaks Challenge

Four Peaks in 48 hours

Thursday,23 to Saturday,25 June 2011

On Thursday, 23 July 2011, up to 60 teams will arrive at Fort William on the shores of Loch Linnhe and Loch Eil, to take part in one of the UK's most exhausting, exhilarating and rewarding charity challenges.

The Four Peaks Challenge has an unprecedented record for exceeding pledged fundraising levels.

In 2010, 42 teams raised over £257,000. Past challengers have pledged over £5m for Wooden Spoon projects throughout the UK.

In less than 48 hours, teams of three will climb more than 4200 metres to the summit and back of four of the highestpeaks in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. Meanwhile, the fourth team member, the reliable driver, will rest while they climb; then take to the roads to drive the 1,000 miles between the peaks, letting the climbers recharge their batteries.

Four Peaks Challenge

The challenge begins at the Nevis Centre, Fort William at 11am on Thursday 23rd June 2011, where teams are asked to register and collect all of their last minute information. Teams will then attend a photo call at a local project before returning to the Nevis Centre for a safety briefing. Challengers then have a bit of time to look around Fort William before starting the largest of the four mountains at 4pm

Over the next 48 hours teams will climb a staggering 14,000ft up and down Helvellyn, Snowdon and Carantouhill, before finally arriving at the Hotel Dunloe Castle in Killarney on Saturday 25th June 2011 for the legendary post challenge awards dinner and a much-needed overnight stay!

On Sunday 26th June 2011, teams have the day free to make their way back home via the most convenient ferry, which the Challenge Office will book for you.

Four Peaks Challenge teams

Some teams return each year to better their times and to try to secure one of the Challenge awards, whilst others participate mainly for the personal satisfaction of completing the event and not necessarily with the aim of being the fastest. Nevertheless participants should have the physical capability and fitness to complete each mountain within the target time.

Training Weekend 2011

Each year we hold a training weekend for all challengers, so that we can let them experience a mountain section, this will involve a full kit check and the climb being timed. The training weekend will take place in April/May 2011 (the date will be confirmed nearer the time). Over the course of the weekend, you can chat to other teams, past competitors, the organisers and you can also experience two climbs in two days by tackling our Sunday walk.

Four Peaks Challenge sponsors

Ford, the official vehicle supplier to Spoon Challenges, supplies every team with a brand new vehicle, which Groupama insures. Stena Line chip in with the ferry tickets and Maximuscle and Highland Spring provide the refreshments.

Four Peaks Challenge awards

Among the awards for the Four Peaks Challenge are the prize for the fastest climbing times both on the individual and over all four mountains as well as for the most funds raised. There are also special awards for the fastest veteran team, the fastest mixed team and the fatsest ladies team.

Points are awarded for both climbing times and fundraising totals and safety is paramount, each team will be fully briefed and equipped to conquer some of the roughest terrain in the UK.

There is a great sense of competition and camaraderie between the teams which helps make each climb less painful. We hope to be there next year, come rain or shine.
